The Stimulator is a pattern that is used to imitate stoneflies or caddis. A pattern developed in the 1980s by Jim Slatterly and later modified Randall Kaufmann of which is widely used today. It’s known to catch fish and do it often.
I have done a Stimulator Fly video before, but this one I do a rear hackle body with a wire ribbing for durability. I don't usually strip the hackle fibers, but I have found for this particular pattern to rib it with wire and still give it the appearance of a pretty fly it makes it soooo much easier. By having half the hackle fibers on the rear body, it doesn't require me to sit there and pick out trapped fibers with a bodkin but rather simply weave it throughout quickly and still adds awesome durability. Also having a rotary vise helps with this step.
